Are you at peace with yourself?

The Dalai Lama said, “We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”

Making peace with myself, that’s something that I have struggled with. I have overstretched myself, been easily distracted, pre-occupied, and struggled with discontentment. I, like many others, assumed if I was happy that I had inner peace.

Unfortunately, inner peace can be elusive and is a misunderstood concept. Often inner peace and happiness are referred to as the same thing. While the two are closely related, there are distinct differences. Inner peace refers to being mentally and spiritually at peace and the acceptance of how things are. Happiness, on the other hand, refers to a state of satisfaction with current circumstances, can come and go, and is an emotion. In essence, happiness is a choice.

So why is inner peace so important?

When a person achieves inner peace, they have balance, inner harmony can remain calm and undisturbed, even when faced with challenges, stress, and tension. Attaining inner peace positively affects the body, mind, and spirit. It can help you focus, increase your tolerance, and patience, and make you feel centered, and have self-discipline.

So how do you find inner peace?

• Meditation & Yoga

• Focus on the present

• Set Boundaries and limits

• Slow down

• Eliminate stress

• Accept and let go

• Breathe

• Self-awareness and self-acceptance

• Positive Thinking

You see, inner peace comes from making changes inside, learning to accept what is, and changing how you think. Once you have achieved inner peace, you will be at a high level spiritually. Mastering inner peace is challenging, but worth working toward it.
