Acknowledge Everyone is Unique
When we are secure in how we are living our lives, it's natural to believe others should. For example, if you went to college, got a degree, you might expect your children to follow in your footsteps.
The truth is, everyone's journey is unique and different from yours.
Your child may not have the same interest in going to college or has other ambitions after high school.
That doesn't make them wrong.
When we acknowledge everyone's journey is unique, it becomes easier to accept them for who they are.
It's Okay to Disagree
Sometimes we see the people we love making decisions that we are not comfortable with. For example, your child decides to delay going to college and plans to take a year off to travel and "find themselves." You feel that they'll never go to college.
Remember, When the person you disagree with is an adult, and they're not doing anything to physically harm themselves or someone else, it is to back off.
Instead of feeling disappointed in their choices, ask yourself what you can learn from them. Celebrate their unique point of view.
After all, if we all made the same decisions all the time, things would be pretty dull.
